Featuring works by Michelangelo, Bernini, and Rodin, the esteemed gallery is one of the main exhibition spaces in the museum. Millions of visitors from across the globe (in usual circumstances anyways) come to appreciate some of the greatest works of art ever created.
The timeline
Initial paint samples were carried out towards the end of October 2020. Work began on the gallery in November, and due to the temporary closure of the museum because of new COVID-19 restrictions, the project was completed ahead of schedule in December.
The scope
MCD Heritage worked to redecorate the walls, windows, columns, and woodwork within the gallery. After prepping each area and taking precautions to ensure the artwork was properly protected, the team completed painting.
Alongside the tremendous task of painting the gallery, additional work was required on other areas. The team relacquered 3 radiator benches, and resprayed and reupholstered 5 high gloss benches. They also removed and reinstalled upgraded window film, which is an effective and low cost way of maximising natural light whilst preserving the quality of the artworks.
The team had to navigate the difficulties of working amongst valuable ancient artwork and the pressures of working in a busy public area. This didn’t come without its challenges, however the project was completed successfully and the client was very happy with the results.
